Thanksgiving Week Garbage Pick Up
You will be picked up Monday, November 25th and Friday, November 29th. They will not pick up on Thursday - Thanksgiving Day.
Dune Grass Planting - Dune Grass is now available
Just to let all of our residents and guests know. As part of the completion of the Army Corp of Engineer's Beach Replenishment Project, the contractor is responsible to plant dune grass in the entire new dune area (east of the easement line). This planting will take place sometime this Fall / Winter (December through February). It is not necessary for individuals, groups, or property owners to plant dune grass on the new dune. The County of Ocean is also, as part of their annual dune grass program, providing dune grass to each municipality. This dune grass can be used by property owners to fortify the dune area west of the easement line / contractor work limit. Property owners should not plant grass in the new dune area. As mentioned above, the Army Corp has that responsibility. Dune grass, as provided by the County of Ocean, has been delivered to the Department of Public Works and is now available for pick up. .

In September of 2018, the Federal Communications Commission adopted new rules governing the placement of wireless nodes (small cell) in the municipal right-of-way. The Order provides that the provisions of the Telecommunications Act are applicable to small cell wireless facilities proposed to be located within a municipal right-of-way. Based upon the new rules, the Borough finds it is necessary to adopt clear standards in relation to the siting of poles, cabinets, and antennas for the benefit of its citizens and any utilities, which use the Borough’s right-of-ways. The purpose of this new ordinance is to protect the property of the Borough and its citizens by creating a permit system for all new poles, antennas, and cabinets, which are proposed to be placed in the municipal right-of-way. Fall-Winter Garbage Pickup Days
As of October 1st thru March 31st the entire town will be picked up Monday and Thursday.
New Jersey American Water is proud to be your local water service provider, and we are committed to providing you with the highest quality water and service possible. I am writing you today to tell you that we made an error recently, and while this was not an emergency, it is something we need to communicate to you. Water samples taken at our Jumping Brook Treatment Plant on September 2, 2019, showed an increased amount of turbidity, which was above the levels permitted by the NJDEP, in one portion of the treatment process for a short period of time. As soon as the issue was identified, we acted quickly to stop the flow of water and remove the cause -- a faulty sensor in the system, which caused an increased amount of water to be filtered more quickly than the recommended rates and raised turbidity levels. Thanks to the quick response by our expert professionals at the plant, we were able to efficiently and effectively restore our system to normal.

While the samples taken of the finished water leaving the plant did not show any contamination, we are still required to notify you about this issue, because it is your right to know. Attached is the official customer notice, which is being mailed today to customers impacted by this issue. The notice is also posted on our website at www.newjerseyamwater.com, under the Alerts section. We ask that you also post this notice in any public areas (i.e., municipal hall, library) so that the public may see it.

We take responsibility for this error, and we have instituted additional engineering and process controls to prevent this from occurring again.

JCP&L has some exciting news for their residential customers regarding payment assistance of utility bills! Energy costs can be a big part of the family budget, and sometimes be a burden. If anyone in the Borough could use some help paying their utility bills, then one of the upcoming, Energy Assistance Day events may be of help. JCP&L will be collaborating with New Jersey Natural Gas (and other electric and gas utilities) for the annual Energy Assistance Day events. Representatives from JCP&L, as well as, Community Action Partnership agencies will be on hand to:
  • Determine which energy assistance programs are best for the customer
  • Assist the customer with the application process
  • Answer customer questions about their bill

To apply for assistance, customers will need to bring Social Security cards and proof of income for all household members, their deed or rental lease and a recent electric bill.

Autumn is the deer breeding season, or ‘rut’. The rut brings a peak in deer movement and we experience more deer on New Jersey roads, leading to a number of deer-vehicle collisions. Municipal vehicles are not immune from this hazard and in some cases, their operations can increase the likelihood, such as the 24 / 7 / 365 operations of police, fire and EMS agencies.
